MOBILE, ALABAMA
We’re Moving!
Exciting news! We're thrilled to announce significant growth in the Mobile area!
Established in 1970, our Mobile campus homes have provided a safe haven for hundreds of Alabama foster kids. Despite changes in government policy that have made the campus home model less viable, our community-based foster care program has continued to thrive. Our ever-expanding community foster care model continues to make a deep impact on the lives of Alabama foster children.
In 2019, we set an ambitious strategic goal called Vision 140. This goal aims to provide care for 1,000 Alabama foster kids by our 140th anniversary in 2031. We are committed to this goal and believe transitioning to more community foster care homes will help us achieve it. This will involve reducing our campus footprint and expanding community foster care across the state. Here are some numbers to illustrate this strategic shift:
It costs $190 a day to care for a child in the campus care model.
The campus care model incurs significantly higher costs due to the maintenance of expansive facilities such as land, a pool, a basketball court, and accommodations for houseparent staff.
It costs $50 a day to care for a child in the community foster care model.
The lower costs of not maintaining a campus will allow us to help more Alabama foster kids while preserving the high quality of care every child deserves.
THE ABCH DIFFERENCE
Quality
of Care
The foster care journey should not be taken alone — which is why all of our foster families are provided a social worker. Our social workers advocate for the child and foster parents. They work with foster families from the first training and all throughout their foster care journey. It is our belief that every child deserves to be cared for at the highest standard. -
We want the kids we serve to know the Author of Hope, who can turn their tears of grief into joy. That is why we place them in homes and with families that regularly direct them to Jesus Christ.
-
Our counseling arm has the largest number of licensed, trauma-informed therapists in the state. The counseling foster kids receive is vital to help heal the trauma they have suffered.
-
Foster parents are required to have training hours to keep their license. Every summer, we provide an all-expense-paid camp with excellent training for our foster parents, as well as a fun camp experience for kids in our care.
-
We provide our foster parents a supplement to state board payments. This added support provides stability for our foster families to ensure they are taken care of.
-
Because of the generous support of individuals, churches, and foundations, items such as school supplies, Christmas gifts, clothing items, and more are provided to the children we serve.
-
Each of our nine locations across the state host smaller events to connect foster families. Building a supportive community is vital to their mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
