Giving and Serving: The Moye Family
Think of something in your life that is easy to take for granted—whether it be the cooked meal on your table tonight, the family you come home to, or the trip you’ll be taking this summer. The things we often take for granted in our personal lives are the very things that bring new light to the eyes of those in our care.
Heath and Rachel Moye have seen this firsthand by serving our campus in Mobile. Having served as Hero Society donors, they recently wanted to serve hands-on by providing a catered-in seafood meal for our kids on campus!
SIMPLE AS SEAFOOD
Heath and Rachel had recently helped plan an engagement party for a friend, where they catered in a nice seafood dinner. While they really enjoyed doing this for their friend, they soon felt compelled to do the same for those children on our Mobile campus.
“Heath is really hard to buy for. I had been asking him what he wanted for Christmas. After the shower, he said, ‘I figured out what I want for Christmas. I want to plan a dinner for the Children’s Homes . . . I want to do something really special for the kids there.’” Rachel says.
To the Moyes, this was a unique, special experience to personally serve, those they are directly impacting through their monthly giving. This service brought them great joy.
“When we gave [the dinner] to them, we saw how tangibly it improved their demeanor and lives; we said, 'This brings more joy than whatever (else) we would have purchased with the money,’” Heath says, “Whatever we would have bought would not have brought us any more joy or happiness, but serving them directly impacts their state . . . It’s an impact on us just as much as it is for them.”
A LEGACY OF SERVICE
Heath first got involved with the Children’s Homes through his parents when he was growing up. He watched his mother pack backpacks for our kids from Mobile who went to Camp of Champions. After he moved to Mobile, it was something he wanted to support. After he and Rachel got married, she agreed that she wanted to continue supporting the ministry as a couple, and they soon became monthly Hero Society donors.
Rachel also came from a legacy of serving, as her grandmother worked at our Mobile campus when she was growing up. “When I found out that Heath was involved with the Children’s Homes, I liked that because it was something that I kind of grew up around. It was important to my family, and I liked that it was important to him,” Rachel says.
MAKING AN IMPACT THROUGH HERO SOCIETY
Heath’s favorite part of being in our Hero Society is, “The knowledge that it (what we can give) does make a direct and immediate impact in someone's life—someone who is most likely in a vulnerable situation. . . The Bible calls us to take care of orphans and widows . . . this is one way we can work to fulfill that commandment.”
We’re so grateful for the Moyes faithfulness and generosity to serve our children and families.
