One Year Later: Tasha & Family

Last August, we shared a letter from a mom named Tasha who had completed our Family Care program. In it, she shared with us how she has seen the Lord work in her life throughout her journey to start over. We were excited to be able to catch up with her recently to talk about what has happened in the past year and learn how God has continued to abundantly bless her and her children.

How have you been since you last shared with us, about a year ago?

We have been doing great. Life has been amazing for us. The Lord has truly had His hand on our lives. So many great things have happened for us, and I give all the glory to God.

Can you give us an update on where you are in life right now and how your kids are doing?

Abbi has completed her first year of big kids school (kindergarten), and Yani has completed middle school and is on her way to high school. I have completed my bachelor’s in Healthcare Management, and I am currently looking at schools to get my master’s degree.

You’ve been able to stay really connected with us at Family Care. What is most helpful or enjoyable in being able to maintain that connection?

I think it’s the feeling of love, family, and community that I have received from Family Care. I have never felt so much love and peace as I have in Family Care. The connection has to be from God because there is just no other way to explain it. Honestly, I am not as close with some of my blood relatives as I am with the Family Care staff.

You recently purchased a home (congratulations!), and the Family Care staff, along with the Kinsley Small Group, helped you move in. Can you share how you felt on your closing day and how your kids’ response was?

Wow, it was the most amazing process. I knew the day was coming, but it was so surreal. When I woke up that morning, I just began to thank God and just give Him praise for the way that He has moved in my life. My kids were super excited. They would finally have a place where they could play without me fussing about the neighbors downstairs. This is a dream that only God could have made come true.

Having gone through the Family Care program and successfully completed it, what advice would you give to the moms that are currently in the program?

I would tell them to allow the program to work for them. Use all of the resources that are available. Although I was already in school when I started the program, I used my time there to complete two years’ worth of classes in one year. I used all the money I saved to pay off all of the negative debt that I had. I used my time there to truly disconnect from the world and reconnected to God. Since I couldn’t have visitors, I used the program rules to disconnect from toxic people that were not a part of God’s plan for my life. It was the best gift of time God could have given me.

What comes to mind when you think about what God has done in your life and taught you and your kids through the ups and downs you’ve experienced?

I just think about His Goodness. I have learned that God’s plan for my life is better than anything I could have come up with. I was so busy thinking that I knew what was best for me, but I had no clue what I really needed. When I gave my whole life over to God and stopped thinking that I was in control, God took my life in a direction that I could never have imagined. When I think about giving my life to Christ, I always imagine God standing there like a little kid waiting to get presents on Christmas morning. He couldn’t wait to get His hands on my life, so that He could finally do everything that He had planned for me all along. I encourage everyone to give God complete control over their lives because I am a living witness that you will not go wrong trusting God with your life.

In God’s Word, we are assured in Romans that for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, all things work together for good. Tasha’s testimony is a beautiful example of the fulfillment of that promise. We know He will continue to show His sovereignty over her life, and we are thankful to be a part!

Thank you for your support, which allows us to minister to Tasha’s family and so many other moms and children seeking a fresh start in Family Care.
